Addis Ababa, October 8, 2026 (FMC) — Minister of Education Berhanu Nega (Prof.) has pledged to work with renewed determination to complete the ongoing reform efforts in Ethiopia’s education sector.

Berhanu Nega was reappointed as Minister of Education today.

Speaking to Fana Media Corporation following his reappointment, the minister said the education sector reform currently underway has not yet been fully completed.

He noted that Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) wants the education reform carried through to completion as it was started.

Accordingly, Berhanu said he would work with greater focus and determination than before to successfully complete the ongoing reform process.

He identified fundamentally transforming the education system and ensuring the quality of education as key priorities for the coming period.

The minister also emphasized the importance of putting the national interest at the center of political engagement, saying safeguarding Ethiopia’s national interests should be a primary concern for all politicians.

He stressed the need for unity in addressing challenges facing the country and called for strengthening the country-centered political system that has been initiated.

Berhanu further underscored the need to put Ethiopia first, protect the country’s interests from being compromised for any consideration, and develop a stronger culture of resolving differences through dialogue.
