Russia Launches International AI Alliance with BRICS Partners to Strengthen Technological Competitiveness
Addis Ababa, October 15, 2026 (FMC) — Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced the establishment of a new international alliance to strengthen cooperation in artificial intelligence (AI) between Russia, BRICS member states, and other partners.
Coordinated by Russia’s Sberbank, the alliance aims to develop collective technological capabilities and enhance international competitiveness in artificial intelligence.
As a BRICS member, Ethiopia stands to gain opportunities for technology and knowledge transfer through this strategic cooperation, potentially supporting the development of its domestic AI capabilities.
The initiative follows a call by China at a recent BRICS leaders’ summit for open-source cooperation and joint research in artificial intelligence.
The new alliance is expected to create opportunities to accelerate AI development across the Global South through international cooperation, knowledge exchange, and the collective advancement of technological capabilities.
