Addis Ababa, October 31, 2026 (FMC) – Ethiopian Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Truneh has underscored the importance of national priorities, security, sustainability and local value creation in Ethiopia’s digital cooperation with Huawei during discussions with the company’s newly appointed Ethiopia Chief Executive Officer, Eric Yuan.
The discussions focused on the progress of Ethiopia’s digital economy, the country’s Digital Ethiopia 2030 vision and opportunities to strengthen collaboration in advancing the national digital transformation agenda.
In a message shared on his social media pages following the meeting, Temesgen said the engagement reflected a shared appreciation of Ethiopia’s progress towards building a more connected, inclusive and competitive economy.
He noted that Yuan commended the Ethiopian Government’s ongoing efforts and reaffirmed Huawei’s commitment to supporting the country’s national ambitions.
The Deputy Prime Minister highlighted Huawei’s contribution as an important partner in expanding Ethiopia’s information and communication technology (ICT) infrastructure and strengthening connectivity.

The two sides also discussed ways to deepen their cooperation based on national ownership, mutual trust, sustainability, security and local value creation.
Temesgen stressed that although strong partnerships are essential to advancing Ethiopia’s digital future, the country’s development trajectory must ultimately be shaped by its own priorities and aspirations.

The Deputy Prime Minister reaffirmed Ethiopia’s ambition to become not only a more connected nation but also a more capable and competitive country, better positioned to shape its own digital future.
