Ethiopia to Open African Leadership Excellence Academy Training to Political Parties Across Africa

Addis Ababa, November 6, 2026 (FMC) – Ethiopia will make the African Leadership Excellence Academy’s training programmes available to political parties across the continent, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed announced, positioning the country’s leadership-development institution as a continental resource for preparing the next generation of African leaders.

Addressing the Second African Political Parties Summit in Addis Ababa, the Prime Minister identified leadership renewal as one of the essential commitments African political parties should pursue to strengthen governance and sustain development.

He said countries risk losing momentum when experienced leaders fail to prepare successors, emphasizing the importance of giving younger party members greater responsibility and advancing those who demonstrate sound judgment and integrity.

“Ethiopia will contribute through the African Leadership Excellence Academy. It will open its training to all parties across the continent,” Abiy stated.

The proposal places Ethiopia’s contribution to the summit beyond political dialogue, offering a practical platform through which parties from different African countries can strengthen leadership capacity and prepare future political leaders.

The Prime Minister underscored that developing new leaders should be a deliberate and continuous responsibility of political organizations rather than an undertaking left until leadership transitions become imminent.

His proposal also reflects the broader purpose of the summit, which brings together African political parties to exchange experience and consider ways of strengthening governance, institutional capacity and the continent’s development trajectory.

By making the Academy’s training available to parties across Africa, Ethiopia is placing its institutional experience at the service of a wider continental effort to develop capable leaders for the future.
