Abrehot Library Paving the Way for a Knowledgeable and Skilled Generation – Addis Ababa Mayor

Addis Ababa, January 4, 2026 (FMC) – Abrehot Library is serving as a major center for knowledge and learning, Addis Ababa City Administration Mayor Adanech Abiebie said, highlighting the facility’s growing role in fostering education and research.

Mayor Adanech made the remarks while launching digital systems designed to enhance the library’s service delivery, in the presence of Addis Ababa City Council Speaker and Abrehot Library Board Chairperson Buzena Alkedir and senior officials.

She recalled that the library was built and commissioned under the initiative of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) and noted that since opening, it has been a pivotal knowledge center in the capital. Mayor Adanech emphasized that the library lays the foundation for Ethiopia’s journey toward prosperity by nurturing a generation skilled in knowledge and expertise.

The Mayor said that by adopting innovative service methods, Abrehot Library is reaching all who seek knowledge, promoting a reading culture and acting as a bridge for knowledge transfer. She added that the newly launched digital systems will enhance both the quality and capacity of reading services.

She further explained that the digital platform will enable integrated management of the library, allowing researchers to conduct their work and access materials remotely with ease.

Mayor Adanech also encouraged citizens to take advantage of the library’s comfortable reading environment, which now offers 24-hour access.

The Director General of Abrehot Library, Muluken Tariku, said the facility provides around-the-clock services to meet the diverse reading needs of citizens. He noted that the new digital systems will strengthen the library’s capacity to deliver services efficiently and effectively.
