African Climate Summit Concludes with Addis Ababa Declaration and New Innovation Compact
Addis Ababa, September 10, 2025 (FMC) – The Second African Climate Summit (ACS2) concluded in Ethiopia with African leaders officially adopting the Addis Ababa Declaration on Accelerating Global Climate Solutions: Financing for Africa’s Resilient and Green Development, a landmark outcome that underscores Africa’s growing leadership in global climate action.
The Declaration was endorsed alongside the Flagship Report on African Climate Initiatives, signaling the continent’s collective determination to advance homegrown solutions and secure fair climate financing. Leaders also launched the Africa Climate Innovation Compact, a bold new framework to accelerate Africa-led strategies for a sustainable future.
In their concluding statement, African leaders emphasized nature-based solutions as central to building climate-resilient and green economies. Ethiopia’s Green Legacy Initiative was recognized as a continental model, inspiring broader efforts across the region.
The Declaration also called for strengthened international support to expand key African initiatives, including the African Union’s Great Green Wall Initiative, the African Forest Landscape Restoration Initiative, and the Ethiopian Green Legacy Initiative, among others.
According to the leaders, the Addis Ababa Declaration transforms Africa’s vulnerability into leadership by championing climate justice, equitable partnerships, and African-led approaches on the global stage.
By concluding the summit with this Declaration and the launch of the Climate Innovation Compact, African leaders reaffirmed their united resolve to turn commitments into action, ensuring that Africa’s voice and solutions shape the global response to the climate crisis.
