🇪🇹 Prime Minister Abiy Mourns Passing of National Dialogue Commissioner Zegeye Asfaw

Addis Ababa, May 12, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has mourned the death of Zegeye Asfaw, Commissioner of the country’s National Dialogue Commission.

In a statement shared on social media, the Prime Minister highlighted Zegeye’s pivotal role in restoring land to farmers whose property had been illegally seized and in implementing reforms in land tenure.

He also recalled Zegeye’s long record of public service, including his tenure in various ministerial positions, and noted that until his passing, he was actively serving as a commissioner in the National Dialogue Commission, which works to address the country’s internal differences through consultation.

Describing Zegeye as a devoted public servant and a father who dedicated his life to supporting the vulnerable, Prime Minister Abiy expressed deep sorrow over his passing.
