Addis Ababa, August 6, 2025 (FMC) — The Second Africa Climate Summit (ACS2), set to take place this September in Addis Ababa, is expected to bring together between 20,000 and 25,000 participants, including heads of state, policymakers, youth representatives, and climate experts.
The event aims to advance Africa’s leadership and collective efforts in addressing climate change through innovative and sustainable solutions.
The summit, convened by the African Union in partnership with the Government of Ethiopia, will run from September 8 to 10, following pre-summit events from September 5 to 7. These preliminary sessions are designed to engage youth, marginalized communities, and other stakeholders to contribute their perspectives and priorities ahead of the main conference.
State Minister of Planning and Development, Mr. Seyoum Mekonnen, highlighted that the summit’s theme, “Accelerating Global Climate Solutions and Financing for Africa’s Resilient and Green Development,” reflects the continent’s determination to move beyond narratives of vulnerability. Instead, Africa seeks to assert its role as a proactive source of climate innovation and solutions.
“The Africa Climate Summit is a pivotal moment for the continent to present a unified voice and make decisive commitments to combat climate change,” Mr. Seyoum said. “Africa is no longer just a victim of climate impacts; it is a leader in creating sustainable and locally-driven responses.”
Key topics at the summit will include nature- and technology-based solutions, adaptation and resilience strategies, climate finance, and African-led initiatives. Ethiopia will also showcase its flagship green development projects, underscoring its commitment to sustainable growth and climate resilience.
Preparations for the event are underway, with pavilions established to display climate actions undertaken by various African countries. A series of side events and discussions will complement the main agenda, providing opportunities for knowledge sharing and partnership building.
The scale and diversity of participation underscore the importance of ACS2 as a forum for strengthening Africa’s position in the global climate dialogue and accelerating the continent’s transition toward a resilient and green future.
