Addis Ababa, May 19, 2025 (FMC) – Africa’s leading event on digital identity, ID4Africa 2025, is set to kick off in Addis Ababa tomorrow, May 20, bringing together more than 2,000 delegates from over 95 countries for four days of high-level discussions, innovation showcases, and collaborative platforms aimed at accelerating digital ID systems across the continent.
The conference, which will take place at the Ethiopian Skylight Hotel from May 20–23, will be held under the theme “Digital Identity at Scale: Prioritizing Use, Accelerating Impact.”
It will feature keynote addresses, panel discussions, country reports, and a major expo highlighting cutting-edge digital identity solutions, it has been learned.
Ethiopia was selected to host this year’s event at the 2024 Annual General Meeting held in Cape Town, South Africa.
The announcement, made by ID4Africa Executive Chairman Dr. Joseph Atick, cited Ethiopia’s strong political will, infrastructure readiness, and commitment to inclusive digital transformation as key factors behind the selection.
The Office of the Prime Minister of Ethiopia is hosting the forum, which is widely regarded as the continent’s premier convening of identity stakeholders, including government agencies, development partners, and private sector leaders.
Ethiopia’s National ID Program is expected to take center stage during the event. The country has registered over 14 million people under its Fayda digital ID initiative and is targeting 70 million enrollments by the end of 2025.
The conference will also be supported by Ethiopian Airlines, the event’s official airline partner, which is offering discounted fares for participants traveling to Addis Ababa between May 10 and June 30.
With its selection as host, Ethiopia positions itself at the heart of Africa’s digital identity agenda, reaffirming its growing role as a regional leader in tech-enabled development and governance.
