Ethiopian scientist Tilahun Amede wins global agriculture award, making history as first black recipient

Addis Ababa, November 12, 2025 (FMC) — Renowned Ethiopian scientist Professor Tilahun Amede, Head of Resilience, Climate and Soil Fertility at the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), has been honored with the Visionary Scientist for African Agriculture Award by OCP North America.

The award, presented on November 11, 2025, in the United States, recognizes Professor Tilahun’s groundbreaking contributions to advancing soil health, climate-smart agriculture, and sustainable food systems across the African continent.

His pioneering research and leadership have shaped innovative solutions that enhance productivity, build resilience to climate change, and promote environmentally sustainable farming practices.
