Addis Ababa, October 2, 2026 (FMC) — Addis Ababa Police has announced temporary road closures and parking restrictions in several parts of the capital ahead of the Irreecha Hora Finfinne festival, which will be celebrated on Saturday, October 3.
According to the police, the specified roads will be closed to vehicles effective today, October 2, from 10:00 a.m. until the conclusion of the festival program.
The affected routes include:
- From Megenagna toward Meskel Square, at both approaches to 22/Golagul Square.
- From Adwa Bridge toward Zerihun Building and St. Urael Square, at the Zerihun Building intersection.
- From Atlas traffic lights toward St. Urael Square, at Peacock traffic lights.
- From Bole Rwanda Bridge toward Meskel Square, at both approaches to Wello Sefer Square.
- From Gazebo Square behind Dembel Building toward Flamingo, as well as from Gazebo Square along the new road toward Legehar traffic lights.
- From St. Kirkos Tabot resting place toward Legehar traffic lights, at the St. Kirkos Tabot resting-place intersection.
- From the former Birhan Ethiopia intersection along the new road toward St. Kirkos Church, at the Birhan Ethiopia intersection.
- From the African Union–St. Michael intersection toward Mexico Square.
- From the African Union traffic lights toward Mexico Square.
- From High Court Square toward Mexico Square.
- From Mexico Araki Factory toward Mexico Square, at the Araki Factory intersection.
- From the Senga Tera 40/60 housing junction toward Senga Tera traffic lights.
- From Goma Quteb traffic lights toward the National Theatre.
- From the Meteorology turn toward Post Office traffic lights.
- From Tikur Anbessa Shell toward Immigration traffic lights, at the Tikur Anbessa intersection.
- From Gola St. Michael intersection toward Immigration traffic lights.
- From Tewodros Square toward Immigration traffic lights.
- From the Commercial Printing turn toward Filwoha intersection.
- From Parliament traffic lights toward the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- From Women’s Square toward Kazanchis.
The police further announced that parking will be prohibited on the specified roads from 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 3, including both short- and long-term vehicle stops.
Addis Ababa Police is advising motorists to plan their journeys in advance and use alternative routes during the restrictions.
The measures have been announced to facilitate the safe and orderly conduct of the Irreecha Hora Finfinne celebration, one of the major cultural gatherings held in the capital.
International residents and visitors in Addis Ababa are particularly advised to take the restrictions into account when planning travel through the capital, especially along central routes and roads leading toward the festival area.
The police said the public can contact the authorities for services or provide information through 01-11-11-01-11 or the toll-free 990 hotline.
