Addis Ababa, September 20, 2025 (FMC) – Members of the diplomatic community in Addis Ababa have lauded the potential of Ethiopia’s cultural diplomacy following a vibrant showcase of the nation’s heritage.
The event featured a dynamic performance by the Kin Ethiopia Arts and Cultural Group, presenting traditional music, dances, and costumes from across the country. It was organized to strengthen cultural diplomacy and give diplomats a firsthand experience of Ethiopia’s rich and diverse traditions.
Burundian Ambassador to Ethiopia Willy Nyamitwe expressed his gratitude for the invitation, emphasizing that cultural diplomacy plays a key role in fostering connections between people and nations. “Culture can bring people together,” he said, praising the dedication and hard work behind the performance. He added that Ethiopia’s commitment to leveraging its cultural assets would enhance its image globally and promote mutual understanding among nations.
Deputy Ambassador of Nigeria to Ethiopia, Maxy Ogbede, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the showcase as a testament to Africa’s vibrant and diverse traditions. “What you’ve done tonight is showcasing Africa to the world,” he said, stressing the importance of cultural events in promoting unity and collaboration across the continent.
Brigadier General Shariful Islam, Bangladesh’s Military Attaché in Ethiopia, also commended the event, noting the unique blend of Ethiopia’s regional cultures and the emphasis on group performances, which foster community and collaboration. He added that the recent inauguration of direct flights between Dhaka and Addis Ababa opens opportunities for increased cultural exchanges, further strengthening diplomatic and people-to-people connections.
The diplomatic community’s enthusiastic response highlights Ethiopia’s growing role in cultural diplomacy and the global recognition of its rich heritage as a bridge for international understanding and cooperation, according to a report by local newswire service ENA.
