Addis Ababa, September 3, 2025 (FMC) – The Second Climate Week (CW2) officially opened in Addis Ababa today, bringing together a high-level delegation of African leaders and global stakeholders to transform climate pledges into concrete action.
The week-long event, held under the theme “Dialogues for Ambition and Implementation,” is strategically positioned to unify Africa’s climate agenda and amplify its priorities ahead of the COP30 UN Climate Conference in Brazil.
The high-level event was attended by dignitaries including Ethiopian President Taye Atske-Selassie and African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf.
The week’s agenda will feature a series of discussions and public-private dialogues aimed at showcasing locally-led solutions and bridging the gap between global climate decisions and concrete actions on the ground.Discussions will cover several critical areas, including capacity building for climate finance, fostering dialogue on generating funds for adaptation needs, and advancing the Global Goal on Adaptation (GGA) in preparation for COP30.
Participants will also explore topics such as pan-African climate finance, energy transitions, the role of local communities within the UNFCCC process, and Ethiopia’s strategies to accelerate Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) through carbon markets.
The event aims to create a global and inclusive dialogue environment to inform future climate summits.
