Addis Ababa, June 9, 2026 (FMC) – Addis Ababa City Mayor Adanech Abiebie has announced that preparations are underway to host the 5th International Conference on Public Health in Africa (CPHIA), scheduled to take place in the Ethiopian capital next November.
The Mayor disclosed this following discussions with Minister of Health Dr. Mekdes Daba and Director General of the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), Dr. Jean Kaseya, on preparations for the continental conference and areas of collaboration for its successful organization.
According to the Mayor, the discussions focused on coordinating efforts for the conference, which will be held under the theme, “Advancing Africa’s Health Sovereignty and Security Agenda.”
In a social media post shared after the meeting, Adanech noted that Addis Ababa has increasingly become a preferred destination for major international events, attributing this to the city’s extensive infrastructure development, the hospitality of its residents, its secure environment, and its growing capacity to successfully host global gatherings.
She added that preparations for the conference are being carried out in close collaboration with partners to ensure the successful staging of the event.
The conference is expected to bring together African Heads of State, ministers, public health leaders, policymakers, researchers, development partners, and other stakeholders to deliberate on key public health priorities across the continent.
