Addis Ababa Mayor Launches 32 New Police and Emergency Facilities Across the Capital

Addis Ababa, December 29, 2025 (FMC) – The Addis Ababa City Administration has inaugurated and commenced operations of 32 newly completed police, fire, and disaster prevention facilities across the capital, marking a significant expansion of the city’s public safety infrastructure.

At the inauguration ceremony, Mayor Adanech Abiebie highlighted that the opening of these facilities represents a new chapter in the history of Addis Ababa Police. She emphasized that the newly completed stations and emergency centers, distributed across all sub-cities, have officially begun operations and are ready to serve the public.

According to the Mayor, the expanded network of police departments, stations, camps, and fire and emergency prevention facilities will bring services closer to residents, enabling the city to deliver police and emergency response directly to the doorsteps of the people.

She further noted that the initiative allows residents to take an active role in peacebuilding and environmental protection, fostering a stronger sense of ownership within the community.

Mayor Adanech underlined that the strategic placement of these institutions in each sub-city is expected to significantly reduce emergency response times and enhance crime prevention, creating substantial potential to minimize damage to life and property.

The Mayor also stressed that the new facilities are designed to match the city’s rapid development while serving as inclusive infrastructures equipped with modern technology. High public participation was observed in the projects, which feature daycare centers, clinics, modern data collection systems, and disaster prevention equipment.

In conclusion, Mayor Adanech expressed gratitude to the entities involved in realizing these projects on schedule and with the desired quality, acknowledging their pivotal role in strengthening the city’s capacity to safeguard residents.
