Addis Ababa, November 22, 2025 (FMC) – Addis Ababa Police have announced that several major roads across the capital will be closed to vehicle traffic during the 25th Great Ethiopian Run 10km international road race taking place on Sunday, November 23, 2025.
This year’s Sofi Malt Great Ethiopian Run will bring together tens of thousands of local and international participants, including ambassadors and invited athletes. In preparation, police said the designated race routes will remain closed from the start to the finish of the competition.
The police urged race participants to comply with security checks, noting that the measures are essential for collective safety. They also called on residents along the race route to continue cooperating with security forces as they have in previous years.
According to the statement, security forces have completed all necessary preparations to ensure the smooth and safe conduct of the race.
In that regard, the following roads and highways will be closed to vehicles throughout the event:
- Olympia Roundabout to Meskel Square – closed at Olympia Square
- Tlahun Square to Saint Joseph Road Traffic Light – closed at Tlahun Roundabout; heavy vehicles blocked from Agona Cinema area
- African Union Traffic Light to Mexico Square – closed at Tiyit Bet intersection
- National Parliament area to Konsen turn – blocked at Parliament premises traffic light
- Konsen turn to St. Gabriel – blocked at Konsen turn
- Tiyit Bet to the back of St. Gabriel – closed at Tiyit Bet intersection
- Women’s Square to Kazanchis – closed at Women’s Square
- Women’s Square to Kazanchis Total – closed at Women’s Square
- 22 Roundabout (Zerihun Building) to St. Urael Church Roundabout – closed at Zerihun Building intersection
- Peacock New Road to St. Urael Roundabout – blocked at Peacock traffic light
- Gazebo Roundabout to Dembel – closed at Gazebo Roundabout
- Kirkos Church intersection to Legehar Traffic Light – closed at St. Kirkos Church traffic light
- Landmark Hospital turn to Genet Hotel / Genet premises traffic light – closed at Landmark Hospital intersection
- Twisting Tower to Mexico Square – blocked at Twisting Tower intersection
- African Union premises traffic light to Mexico Square – closed at Mexico Square ammunition factory intersection
- Feresegna Traffic Light to Cheffe Meda – closed at Feresegna traffic light
- Mola Maru Intersection to Geja Sefer – closed at Geja Sefer intersection
- Federal High Court Roundabout to Mexico Square – closed at Federal High Court premises roundabout
- Senga Tera 40/60 Condominium area to Senga Tera Traffic Light – closed at the condominium turn

Police said the road closures will take effect from 5:30 a.m. on Sunday and will remain in force until the race concludes. Meanwhile, parking—both short-term and long-term—will be prohibited on the listed roads beginning 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.
