Addis Ababa Police Enforce Road Closures Across Capital Ahead of AU and Italy-Africa Summits

Addis Ababa, February 11, 2026 (FMC) – The Addis Ababa Police have announced temporary road closures across the city to ensure smooth traffic flow and enhance security for visiting dignitaries arriving for this week’s summits.

The 48th Ordinary Session of the AU Executive Council is taking place on February 11–12, 2026, followed by the 2nd Italy–Africa Summit on February 13, and the 39th Ordinary Session of the African Union Assembly of Heads of State and Government on February 14–15.

The joint security and intelligence task force responsible for summit preparations is now fully operational. To facilitate the movement of leaders and prevent traffic congestion, several major routes have been designated for closure.

The affected routes include the highway from Bole International Airport to Brass and the road from Bole Medhane‑Alem Church to St. Urael Church via Atlas Hotel. These roads will be completely closed to vehicular traffic starting today, February 11, 2026, and will remain closed until the summits conclude.

Drivers are urged to remain vigilant and courteous, give priority to vehicles carrying summit guests at major intersections and along expressways, and obey instructions from traffic police personnel. Parking for both short and long durations is prohibited along the affected routes.

The Addis Ababa Police have asked citizens to report any suspicious activity immediately through toll‑free hotlines 990, 991, 987, 816, 011‑1‑26‑43‑59, 011‑5‑52‑63‑02/03, 011‑5‑52‑40‑77, 011‑5‑54‑36‑78, and 011‑5‑54‑36‑81, or via the Citizen Engagement Application (EFPApp) on mobile devices.
