Addis Ababa, March 5, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopia will host a World Athletics One Day Meeting for the first time in its history on April 18, 2026, in Addis Ababa.
The event has been officially included in the World Athletics international competition calendar, marking a significant milestone for Ethiopian athletics and underscoring the country’s expanding role in the global sporting arena.
The opportunity follows a two-day working visit to Ethiopia by World Athletics Director of Competitions Pierce O’Callaghan, who assessed local sports facilities and confirmed the country’s readiness to successfully stage an international athletics competition.
The meeting is expected to attract leading athletes from around the world and will feature competitive prize awards.
It will also provide valuable professional exposure for Ethiopian sports officials and event organizers, who will work closely with international experts in organizing and delivering the competition.
The Ethiopian Athletics Federation expressed its appreciation to World Athletics and Ethiopia’s Ministry of Culture and Sport for their support in facilitating the event.
The federation further reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening international sports partnerships and advancing the development of athletics in Ethiopia.
