Addis Ababa, April 14, 2026 (FMC) — The African Union Commission and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) have discussed strengthening cooperation in key development areas, with a focus on education, culture, and knowledge management.
The discussions were held between Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, and Khaled El-Enany, Director-General of UNESCO, at UNESCO headquarters in Paris.
Both sides emphasized the importance of aligning their respective mandates to support broader development objectives, particularly in expanding access to education, preserving cultural heritage, and enhancing knowledge-sharing systems across the African continent.
They also reviewed opportunities to deepen cooperation within the framework of their existing memorandum of understanding, reaffirming their commitment to more coordinated engagement in advancing shared priorities.
