Addis Ababa, November 9, 2025 (FMC) – China and Africa are advancing together as fellow travelers towards modernization, driving industrialization, regional integration, and sustainable development across the continent, according to Chinese Embassy Charge d’Affaires in Addis Ababa, Mr. Sun Mingxi.
In a recent exclusive interview with Fana Media Corporation, Mr. Sun emphasized the strong ties between China, Ethiopia, and Africa, noting that cooperation is guided by shared goals and mutual learning.
“Ethiopia is our ironclad friend, and Africa is our African people. Our people are our brothers and sisters, and so we are fellow travelers towards modernization,” he said, highlighting the close social and diplomatic connections.
He added, “We will continue to learn from each other and share our experience with African friends, and we will pursue common prosperity.”
Pointing to the scale and global significance of the partnership, Mr. Sun noted, “China has a population of 1.4 billion, and Africa also has 1.4 billion people altogether. Combined, we account for one-third of the world population. The prosperity of the world cannot be realized unless China and Africa realize it.”
The diplomat stressed that China-Africa cooperation extends beyond individual countries, encompassing industrialization, regional integration, sustainable development, and people-to-people exchange.
He referred to the FOCAC 2025–2027 Action Plan, which sets ten priority areas for cooperation, including trade, industrial chain development, agriculture, green development, health, infrastructure, security, cultural exchange, and mutual prosperity.
Mr. Sun also highlighted Ethiopia-hosted initiatives as examples of China-Africa engagement, such as the first China-Africa Human Rights Cooperation Forum, which gathered representatives from over 47 African countries and strengthened collaboration on governance and social development.
He further emphasized China’s commitment to fulfilling its promises to Africa, including technology transfer, development assistance, and sharing expertise to support Africa’s modernization, while urging developed countries to honor their commitments in areas like climate financing and sustainable development support.
“Through cooperation with African partners, China aims to promote social and economic development, strengthen regional integration, and advance Africa’s voice in global governance,” Mr. Sun said, underscoring the continental and global significance of the partnership.
