China Congratulates Prosperity Party on Election Victory, Reaffirms Commitment to Deepening Strategic Partnership with Ethiopia

Addis Ababa, June 25, 2026 (FMC) – China has congratulated Ethiopia’s Prosperity Party, led by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, on its victory in the country’s seventh general election, expressing confidence in Ethiopia’s continued development and pledging to further deepen bilateral cooperation.

Speaking at a regular press briefing in Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Guo Jiakun extended congratulations to the Prosperity Party on once again winning Ethiopia’s parliamentary elections.

Guo said China believes Ethiopia will achieve even greater progress in national development and reiterated Beijing’s support for the country in pursuing a development path suited to its national conditions.

Describing Ethiopia as an “all-weather strategic partner,” the spokesperson said China highly values its relations with Ethiopia and stands ready to work with the East African nation to advance cooperation under the framework of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).

He noted that China is prepared to deepen practical bilateral cooperation, implement the important understandings reached by the leaders of the two countries, and deliver greater benefits to their peoples.

Guo further stressed China’s commitment to promoting stronger solidarity and cooperation between China and Africa, as well as among countries of the Global South.

The remarks came after Ethiopia’s National Election Board announced that the ruling Prosperity Party had secured a decisive victory in the country’s seventh general election, winning a renewed parliamentary majority.

China’s statement adds to a growing number of congratulatory messages from international partners following the election outcome, underscoring Ethiopia’s expanding engagement with countries across Africa, Asia and beyond.
