Addis Ababa, September 30, 2026 (FMC) — The “Chinese + Vocational Skills” training program, jointly implemented by the Federal Technical and Vocational Training Institute (FTVTI) and Henan University of Industry Technology (HUIT), has successfully concluded in Ethiopia, strengthening practical skills development and technical cooperation in support of the country’s industrial talent needs.
Implemented with strong support from Ethiopia’s Ministry of Labour and Skills (MoLS), the program represents a practical cooperation initiative between China and Ethiopia in vocational education, focusing on mechanical manufacturing and automation.
Following an invitation from FTVTI, HUIT dispatched experienced instructor Zhang Jinyang to Ethiopia, where he conducted on-site training from August 10 to September 21, 2026.
The program adopted an integrated approach combining theoretical lectures, hands-on practice and project-based training. The training pace and focus were adjusted according to participants’ existing knowledge and learning needs.
Participants received systematic instruction in core theories of mechanical manufacturing, alongside intensive practical training covering CNC machine-tool operation, programming and commissioning, equipment maintenance and other technical competencies.
The program also introduced advanced technological practices and standardized operational workflows from China’s manufacturing sector, giving participants practical exposure to skills applicable to real-world industrial settings.
Participants actively engaged in the training through classroom learning, repeated practical exercises and technical consultations addressing production-related challenges.
All trainees completed the curriculum, passed comprehensive assessments and successfully graduated from the program.
Participants said the practical training closely matched the requirements of local enterprises and would help prepare them for future careers in manufacturing.
The program has contributed to addressing gaps in mechanical-manufacturing skills development while enhancing participants’ professional competence and practical capabilities.
Beyond the immediate training outcomes, the initiative has provided a platform for broader vocational-education exchange and technical knowledge sharing between Ethiopia and China.
The two sides plan to further deepen institutional cooperation through initiatives including joint curriculum development and faculty exchanges. The expanded cooperation is expected to support the upgrading of Ethiopia’s vocational education system and contribute to the development of skilled technical personnel for the country’s industrialization drive.
The initiative also underscores the potential for sustained China-Ethiopia cooperation in vocational education, technical training and industrial skills development.
