Addis Ababa, November 28, 2025 (FMC) – Construction of the Shabelley Resort in Ethiopia’s Somali Region is entering its final stage, progressing with high quality and on schedule.
A final construction performance review of the Shabelley Resort Project, part of the “Dine for Generation” tourism initiative under Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s flagship program, was recently held.
The review was attended by Ethiopia’s Minister of Irrigation and Lowland Areas, Abraham Belay; Somali Regional State Deputy Chief Administrator, Mr. Ibrahim Osman; and other senior government officials.
During the meeting, officials confirmed that the first phase of the resort’s construction is nearing completion.
The Somali Regional State Government Communication Bureau told Fana Digital that consultations were conducted to finalize preparations for the project’s inauguration.
Located in the Fafen Zone, approximately 29 kilometers from the regional capital, Jigjiga, Shabelley Resort spans 385 hectares. Once completed and operational, it is expected to become a major tourist destination for the region and surrounding areas.
