Defense University Preparing Professionals for a Modern, Tech-Enabled Military – Defense Minister

Addis Ababa, July 13, 2025 (FMC) — The Ethiopian Defense University is playing a pivotal role in cultivating the skilled professionals required to build a modern, technology-enabled national defense force, according to Minister of Defense Aisha Mohammed.

The Minister made the remarks during a graduation ceremony held on July 12, where students were awarded undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral degrees in disciplines including engineering, health sciences, business, and resource management.

The ceremony was attended by senior government officials, including Minister of Irrigation and Lowland Areas Dr. Abraham Belay, State Minister of Health and Deputy Chairperson of the University Board Dr. Dereje Duguma, as well as high-ranking defense officers, foreign military attachés, and families of the graduates.

In her address, Minister Aisha described the graduating class as a reflection of Ethiopia’s enduring legacy of heroism and national pride.

She noted that the Defense University is producing not only capable military professionals, but also civil leaders who embody purpose, knowledge, and professional integrity.

She emphasized that the institution is at the forefront of enhancing Ethiopia’s military technological capacity and is actively contributing to the creation of a technologically advanced and modern army.

Minister Aisha also highlighted the University’s contributions in the areas of research and community service, and called on the institution to further strengthen its efforts in support of national development and future generations.

She urged graduates to serve their country with steadfast loyalty, ethical commitment, and a strong sense of duty.

Brigadier General Kebede Regasa, President of the Ethiopian Defense University, reaffirmed the University’s continued engagement in the development of indigenous military technologies while simultaneously shaping a competent and professional defense force.
