Deputy PM Lauds Kombolcha’s Digital Service Upgrade and People-Centered Urban Initiative

Addis Ababa, November XX, 2025 (FMC) — Kombolcha Metropolitan City has unveiled new digital service systems and social housing initiatives aimed at modernizing public service delivery and strengthening community-focused development, Ethiopia’s Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh said.

Mr. Temsgen traveled to Komobolcha Metropolitan City of the Amhara regional state over the weekend where he toured various development projects in the city.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister, the city has made notable progress in transforming government service delivery through technology-driven systems, improved administrative infrastructure, and upgraded public-facing work environments. He said these efforts reflect the government’s drive toward building smart, efficient, and people-centered urban administrations.

Temesgen noted that the city administration building has been fully renovated to align with smart-city standards, enabling the integration of modern digital platforms intended to improve efficiency, streamline services, and enhance citizen experience.

He also highlighted the construction and handover of residential housing blocks for low-income communities, developed through collaboration between the city administration, private sector partners, and residents. The new units are reported to provide dignified living conditions for vulnerable groups, including elderly citizens.

The Deputy Prime Minister described Kombolcha’s approach as a model of inclusive urban development, saying that the digital service rollout and community-focused initiatives demonstrate how modern infrastructure, technology, and social support can be integrated into local governance.
