Addis Ababa, October 12, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopia has officially launched the 7th National Cybersecurity Month under the theme “Active Citizen; Secured Country!”, underscoring the role of cybersecurity in safeguarding national security and advancing the country’s digital transformation.
Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Truneh, who opened the month-long initiative, said the achievements of Digital Ethiopia 2025—including expanded internet access, telecommunications liberalization, advances in digital payment systems and the digitization of government services—have laid a strong foundation for Ethiopia’s digital transformation.
Building on these achievements, Ethiopia is advancing its Digital Ethiopia 2030 vision, placing technology at the heart of national development and long-term prosperity, he said.
Temesgen commended the Information Network Security Administration (INSA) for its round-the-clock efforts to safeguard the country’s cyberspace, emphasizing that protecting digital infrastructure is essential to advancing national development priorities and realizing the ambitions of Digital Ethiopia 2030.
He stressed that cybersecurity goes beyond protecting technology, encompassing the defense of Ethiopia’s digital sovereignty, the safety of its citizens and the future of the nation.
The Deputy Prime Minister also underscored that building a secure, resilient and trusted digital environment is a shared national responsibility, with every citizen having a role to play.
The initiative highlights Ethiopia’s commitment to strengthening cybersecurity as digital connectivity and services expand, with active citizen participation central to securing the country’s digital future.
