Addis Ababa, May 20, 2025 (FMC) – Ethiopia’s Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh has held a high-level bilateral meeting with Brazil’s Vice President and Minister of Industry and Development, Geraldo Alckmin, on the margins of the Second Brazil-Africa Dialogue on Food Security, Combating Hunger, and Rural Development in Brasília.
Note that Deputy PM Temesgen, alongside his delegation, traveled to Brazil to participate in the Dialogue.
During the discussion with Mr. Temesgen Truneh, Vice President Alckmin praised Ethiopia’s rapid economic growth and revitalization of domestic production, expressing Brazil’s strong interest in deepening cooperation—especially in the aviation sector, where Ethiopia continues to lead in Africa.
Deputy PM Temesgen described Africa as being at a turning point in converting its development potential into tangible results. “Across the continent, we are strengthening sustainable agriculture, embracing technology, and expanding market access for farmers. The future is taking root in our fields,” he said.
The two countries already cooperate in agriculture, forest management, and acidic soil utilization. The meeting explored ways to elevate this partnership with a focus on sustainable development, trade, and investment.
“Together with Vice President Alckmin, we’ve charted a course—one that builds on our shared past and looks boldly toward the future,” Deputy PM Temesgen remarked. “Through multilateral collaboration and joint action, we are determined to drive the kind of progress that brings lasting change to our people.”
The Brazil-Africa Dialogue, now in its second edition, serves as a platform to strengthen regional cooperation in agriculture and rural development. This year’s forum emphasizes research, innovation, and the establishment of modern institutions to boost productivity and ensure food security.
Officially opened today by Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, the meeting will promote the exchange of knowledge and experiences to contribute to strengthening food production in African countries.
Ethiopia is expected to share its experiences at the summit; highlighting the policy-backed reforms, it has implemented to transform its agricultural sector, it has been learned.
