Addis Ababa, December 20, 2025 (FMC) — Ethiopia’s path to prosperity will be driven by digital knowledge and innovation, Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh said, outlining the country’s vision under the newly launched Digital Ethiopia 2030 strategy.
The launch event took place today in Addis Ababa, attended by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, senior federal and regional officials, members of the National Digital Transformation Council, representatives from the private sector, and development partners.
On the occasion, Deputy PM Temesgen delivered the keynote address, detailing the strategy’s objectives and its roadmap for the next five years.
Deputy PM Temesgen emphasized that advancing Ethiopia’s journey toward prosperity makes digital transformation not a choice but an essential necessity.
“Today, we officially launched the implementation phase of Digital Ethiopia 2030—a strategy designed to propel our nation’s digital transformation to new heights. For Ethiopia, accelerating our comprehensive journey toward prosperity makes digital transformation not a choice, but a necessity,” he said.
Reflecting on the achievements of the outgoing Digital Ethiopia 2025 Strategy, he highlighted that the initiative laid a strong, technology-enabled foundation for the country’s economic growth.
Deputy PM Temesgen noted that the previous strategy had expanded digital infrastructure across the nation, introduced the Mesob one-stop service and the Fayda digital ID, advanced digital finance and payments, and launched the Five Million Coders Initiative, which is building a digitally skilled citizenry.
He added that these initiatives had also brought substantial improvements in government operations, service delivery, and access to finance.
“The Digital Ethiopia 2025 Strategy has delivered wide-ranging benefits by expanding digital infrastructure across the country. Significant changes have also been realized in government operations, service delivery, and access to finance,” Temesgen said.
Looking ahead, Deputy PM Temesgen explained that Digital Ethiopia 2030 is a nationally coordinated initiative guided by strong governance and clear leadership. The strategy aims to make inclusive digital services accessible to all, foster a citizen-centered digital government, and support homegrown technological innovation and startups.
He emphasized that achieving these goals requires moving beyond conventional approaches and embracing a bold, innovative, and accelerated digital leap.
He called on government institutions and the private sector to modernize their services, urged development partners to align their support with national priorities, and encouraged youth and professionals to contribute their creativity and energy toward building sustainable local solutions.
“Together, we will realize Ethiopia’s prosperity through digital knowledge and innovation,” Deputy PM Temesgen affirmed.
