Addis Ababa, August 4, 2025 (FMC) — Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh has called on the Ethiopian News Agency (ENA) to strengthen its efforts to position itself as a continental media leader and a credible voice for Africa on the global stage.
Speaking during a visit to ENA’s modern media complex in Addis Ababa on Monday, Temesgen hailed the agency’s 83-year track record in representing Ethiopia’s national stance, describing it as “a pillar of national voice and pride.”
He noted that ENA, with its new state-of-the-art studios and renewed focus on multilingual content, is well-placed to evolve into a forward-looking African media powerhouse capable of amplifying African narratives to global audiences.
“ENA is entering a bold new chapter. With its modern facilities and a commitment to multilingualism, it is poised to serve as a gateway for Africa’s voice—starting from Ethiopia but echoing across the continent,” the Deputy Prime Minister said.
Temesgen emphasized the agency’s vital role in safeguarding national interests and promoting Ethiopia’s cultural and tourism assets. He also highlighted ENA’s expanding role in producing content in international languages, which he described as a strategic tool to present Africa’s authentic image to the world.
“These efforts must be supported and scaled up to amplify the continent’s voice. We must actively build the Africa we dream of—an Africa we work for, write about, speak of, and boldly present to the world,” he stated.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment, Temesgen said authorities will continue to partner with ENA to advance national and continental media goals.
“ENA will not only remain a news agency. It will be a beacon of unity, a custodian of our heritage, and a vital platform for Africans to tell their own stories—authentically, confidently, and in their own words,” he added.
