Digital Ethiopia 2030 strategy anchored in transparent governance, measurable outcomes – PM Office Advisor

Addis Ababa, December 23, 2025 (FMC) — Digital Ethiopia 2030 is a people-centered national strategy designed to transform all sectors of the economy through inclusive, accountable, and results-oriented digital governance, according to Myriam Ali, Digital Advisor at the Office of the Prime Minister.

Ms. Myriam made the remarks during the review of the Digital Ethiopia 2025 Strategy and the official launch of Digital Ethiopia 2030, held on Saturday at the Addis International Convention Center, where Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed presided over the event.

She explained that Digital Ethiopia 2030 builds directly on the foundations laid under Digital Ethiopia 2025, particularly the expansion of national digital infrastructure, while placing stronger emphasis on delivering tangible and measurable results over the next five years.

According to Myriam, the new strategy is designed to guide how Ethiopia governs, delivers public services, grows its economy, and ensures that every citizen is included in shaping the country’s digital future. She noted that the approach is not sector-specific, but rather intended to transform the entire economy through coordinated digital transition.

She further stated that the implementation of Digital Ethiopia 2030 will be guided by a transparent governance system, clear leadership structures, measurable outcomes, and accountability mechanisms, stressing that these elements are critical to ensuring sustainable digital transformation.

The Digital Advisor highlighted that universal access to digital services, the establishment of a citizen-centered digital government, and the development of sovereign and secure digital systems are among the core pillars of the strategy. She emphasized that these priorities reflect Ethiopia’s own innovation path and national context.

Myriam also pointed out that public digital infrastructure constitutes the central engine of the strategy, encompassing digital utilities, payment systems, and data-exchange platforms that enable efficient service delivery and economic activity.

She explained that initiatives such as the MESOB one-stop service platform are expected to evolve into a fully digital government system, making public services faster, simpler, and more accessible to citizens across the country.

According to her remarks, effective digital transition will also depend on supportive legal frameworks, institutional capacity, digital skills development, and the strengthening of public trust. She noted that the strategy is expected to generate wide-ranging benefits across sectors including agriculture, health, education, and industry.

Ms. Myriam underscored that the successful implementation of Digital Ethiopia 2030 requires collective effort, stressing that government institutions, the private sector, development partners, and society at large must work collaboratively to achieve the strategy’s objectives.

She concluded by reaffirming that Digital Ethiopia 2030 is not solely a government initiative, but a national undertaking aimed at empowering people and institutions, accelerating inclusive economic growth, and positioning Ethiopia as a competitive and trusted digital economy.
