Addis Ababa, November 27, 2025 (FMC) — Ethiopia’s National Digital Transformation Council on Thursday endorsed the Digital Ethiopia 2030 Strategy and forwarded the plan to the Council of Ministers for final approval, Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Truneh said in a post on his social media page.
The Council met for its fifth regular session and reviewed progress on directives issued at the fourth meeting, assessed committee structures and approved the necessary restructuring decisions. Members also evaluated the Council’s overall performance and ongoing national digital initiatives.
Key items examined during the meeting included the rollout of the Digital ID (Fayda) registration, the implementation status of the “5 Million Ethiopian Coders” initiative, and how newly launched and existing digital projects align with the current Digital Ethiopia 2025 Strategy.
By endorsing the 2030 strategy, the Council signalled a shift toward a longer-term framework aimed at accelerating the country’s digital transformation. Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen said Ethiopia is entering a phase in which its digital economy is “poised for exponential growth,” and affirmed the Council’s commitment to speeding up implementation to realize that potential.
“The Council remains committed to accelerating this momentum and fulfilling its mandate to make this leap a reality,” he wrote, adding that “Ethiopia’s digital future is being built today—faster, smarter, and for everyone.”
