ENDF Chief of Staff meets AFRICOM Commander to strengthen Ethiopia-U.S. security cooperation

Addis Ababa, June 20, 2025 (FMC) — Field Marshal Berhanu Jula, Chief of Staff of the Ethiopian National Defense Forces (ENDF), met with General Michael Langley, Commander of the U.S. Marine Corps and AFRICOM, to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation on peace and security.

During the meeting, both military leaders reaffirmed the longstanding partnership between Ethiopia and the United States, built on over a century of diplomatic relations. They exchanged views on current security challenges in the Red Sea and the Horn of Africa, agreeing to continue collaboration to address these issues effectively.

Field Marshal Berhanu Jula emphasized Ethiopia’s commitment to maintaining regional stability and enhancing defense cooperation. General Langley recognized Ethiopia’s pivotal role in promoting peace in Somalia and combating terrorism in the region.

The meeting was attended by senior military officials from both countries, including U.S. Ambassador to Ethiopia Ervin Massinga. The ENDF social media team reported that the discussions underscored mutual understanding and a shared commitment to continued partnership in defense and security matters.

Earlier in the day, General Langley also held talks with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to discuss broader bilateral issues.
