Addis Ababa, May 2, 2025 (POA) — The Ethio Skills National Competition has played a vital role in advancing market-driven technology within Ethiopia, according to Ministry of Labor and Skills.
Ethiopia has officially launched the second phase of its national skills development program, with the fourth Ethio Skills National Competition taking place from May 5 to May 10, 2025.
The biennial event, held under the theme “Bright Minds, Skilled Citizens,” aims to promote excellence in vocational training and align skills development with the country’s socio-economic goals.
Speaking to the media, Minister of Labor and Skills Muferihat Kamil emphasized that the competition fosters innovation, entrepreneurship, and excellence by providing a platform for youth from technical and vocational institutions to showcase their talents and solutions.
She noted that the event plays a crucial role in driving the development of technologies that meet market demands through problem-solving research.
Participants from all regions and city administrations will compete across 22 sectors, presenting innovations that address both national challenges and economic needs.
“This is more than just a competition, it’s a national initiative to promote problem-solving, boost the tourism sector, and integrate local innovations into the wider economy,” said the Minister.
This year, 99 new technologies are being developed by 180 participants, up from 81 in the previous fiscal year, she said, adding, of these, 70 will be presented during the competition, with the goal of connecting promising innovations to potential markets.
Minister Muferihat underscored that Ethiopia is entering a “second phase of patriotism,” where building practical skills and technological capacity is essential to achieving national prosperity.
