Ethio Telecom Signs Strategic Master Service Agreement with CAMTEL to Support Cameroon’s Digital Transformation

Addis Ababa, December 5, 2025 (FMC) — Ethio telecom has signed a Master Service Agreement (MSA) with Cameroon Telecommunications (CAMTEL) to support Cameroon’s national digital transformation efforts, marking a significant expansion of Ethiopia’s digital expertise beyond its borders.

The agreement was concluded in Yaounde on December 4, 2025, formalizing cooperation that began following CAMTEL executives’ benchmarking visit to Ethiopia in April 2025.

During the visit, CAMTEL observed how Ethio telecom — Africa’s pioneering integrated telecom and digital solutions provider with 86.1 million subscribers and over 57.59 million telebirr users — has been instrumental in implementing the “Digital Ethiopia” national strategy.

The company’s execution capacity, commercial experience and broad digital service portfolio became a key model referenced by the Cameroonian delegation.

CAMTEL, which operates Cameroon’s national fiber-optic backbone of more than 15,000 km and delivers fixed, mobile, internet and data center services across all 10 regions, is working to build a modern digital economy through network modernization, expansion of financial digital access, and digitalization of public services.

The new agreement positions Ethio telecom as a strategic partner in advancing that agenda through expert consultancy and cross-immersion programs.

Under the partnership, Ethio telecom will support the development and launch of Blue Money, CAMTEL’s electronic payment platform aimed at enhancing financial inclusion in Cameroon. The agreement also includes technical cooperation for digitizing public service delivery, including establishing a sovereign Government Cloud.

It has been mentioned that Ethio telecom will further guide network modernization efforts toward 4G, 5G and advanced connectivity technologies, while supporting CAMTEL in organizational transformation through information system modernization, work automation and customer-focused operations.

Beyond these strategic priorities, the MSA provides a framework for further collaboration in enterprise digital solutions, digital lifestyle services, interconnect frameworks and value-added services as the partnership evolves.

The collaboration is expected to accelerate Cameroon’s digitalization drive while strengthening its digital economy. For Ethio telecom, the agreement advances its “Next Horizon: Digital & Beyond 2028 Strategy,” enabling the company to operationalize regional expansion initiatives and reinforce Ethiopia’s leadership role in Africa’s digital transformation landscape.
