Addis Ababa, November 3, 2025 (FMC) – Ethiopia is playing a strategic role in China-Africa cooperation, serving as a hub for initiatives that promote sustainable development, regional integration, and the collective voice of African nations, according to Chinese Embassy Charge d’Affaires in Addis Ababa, Mr. Sun Mingxi.
In an exclusive interview with Fana Media Corporation, Mr. Sun highlighted the framework established by the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) 2025–2027 Action Plan, which identifies ten priority areas for collaboration, including trade, industrial chain cooperation, agriculture, green development, health, infrastructure, security, cultural exchange, and people-to-people cooperation.
“Ethiopia enjoys a very important location. It is the political center of the African Union. If we have cooperation and joint initiatives with Ethiopia, its impact will cover the whole continent,” Mr. Sun said, emphasizing the country’s continental influence.
He pointed to concrete examples of Ethiopia-led initiatives, such as the first China-Africa Human Rights Cooperation Forum held in Addis Ababa, which drew participation from more than 47 African countries and had a positive impact across the continent.
Mr. Sun also noted China’s commitment to fulfilling its pledges to Africa, including technology transfer, development assistance, and knowledge sharing, while encouraging developed nations to honor their own commitments in areas like climate financing and sustainable development support.
“Through cooperation with Ethiopia and other African partners, China aims to promote social and economic development, strengthen regional integration, and advance Africa’s voice in global governance,” he said.
The Charge d’Affaires underlined the importance of linking these initiatives with Africa-wide projects such as AfCFTA implementation, industrialization, and green development, framing Ethiopia as a central partner in advancing the continent’s sustainable growth and prosperity.
“Ethiopia anchors China-Africa partnerships that contribute to the shared prosperity of the continent,” Mr. Sun concluded, highlighting the country’s strategic role in shaping the future of Africa-China cooperation.
