Addis Ababa, June 24, 2026 (FMC) – Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has said that Ethiopia and India share bonds rooted in history, partnership, and shared ambition for their peoples.
In a message published on social media in response to his Indian counterpart’s congratulatory message on Ethiopia’s election victory, Prime Minister Abiy thanked Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, describing him as a trusted friend and elder brother whose historic mandate reflects the enduring democratic strength of the world’s largest democracy.
Prime Minister Abiy also reiterated that Ethiopia and India share bonds rooted in history, partnership, and shared ambition for their peoples.
“We look forward to building on our Strategic Partnership and continuing this journey together,” he said in a post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
Meanwhile, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his congratulatory message to Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and the Prosperity Party, said India greatly cherishes its historic, multifaceted and deep-rooted ties with Ethiopia.
Recalling his visit to Ethiopia last year, the Indian Prime Minister said he looks forward to working closely with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to further strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries and deepen the bonds of friendship between their peoples.
