Addis Ababa, October 10, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopia is dispatching humanitarian assistance to climate-affected communities in Afar region and providing relief to vulnerable residents of Alamata town, drawing on the country’s own capacity to respond to humanitarian needs.
The Ethiopian Disaster Risk Management Commission said humanitarian supplies were being transported from the central grain reserve warehouse in Adama to Afar region to support communities affected by climate-related challenges.
The Commission noted that regional states were responding to natural and human-induced disasters using their own resources, while the federal government was providing additional assistance to priority areas requiring support.
In Afar region, the regional government continues to provide assistance and monitor the situation within its capacity, with the Commission providing support and oversight. Vehicles carrying humanitarian supplies from the Adama warehouse have departed for the region.
Meanwhile, the distribution of humanitarian assistance has begun in Alamata town, where vulnerable residents are receiving support to address urgent needs. The assistance was fully funded by the federal government and delivered within a few days, residents said.
The interventions demonstrate Ethiopia’s capacity to mobilize domestic resources and deliver humanitarian assistance to communities facing hardship.
