Addis Ababa, April 20, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopia has held high-level discussions with World Bank leadership to strengthen cooperation on economic reforms and knowledge support, as the country pushes forward with its transformation agenda.
Finance Minister Ahmed Shide led a delegation in talks with World Bank Managing Director and Chief Knowledge Officer Paschal Donohoe on the margins of the Spring Meetings.
The discussions reviewed progress under Ethiopia’s Homegrown Economic Reform Agenda, with emphasis on gains in macroeconomic stabilization and structural transformation. The Ethiopian side stressed that mobilizing private capital is becoming increasingly central as the country advances toward a private sector-led growth model.
The meeting also touched on Ethiopia’s preparations to host COP32, highlighting its importance in promoting climate resilience and green development.
Paschal Donohoe reaffirmed the World Bank’s support for Ethiopia’s reform efforts, including scaling up analytical work and technical assistance to sustain progress. He also expressed support for the country’s COP32 preparations and indicated readiness to undertake a working visit to Ethiopia at the earliest opportunity.
