Addis Ababa, August 13, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopia and Kenya have reaffirmed their longstanding defence partnership as Ethiopian Ambassador to Kenya General Bacha Debele Buta and Kenya’s Chief of the Defence Forces, General Charles Kahariri, discussed ways to deepen military cooperation and advance shared security interests in the Horn of Africa.
Ambassador General Bacha Debele paid a courtesy call on General Kahariri at the Defence Headquarters in Nairobi, where they discussed bilateral and regional security matters, with a focus on cooperation between the Ethiopian National Defence Force and the Kenya Defence Forces.
The talks covered intelligence and information sharing, operational coordination and border security. The two sides also highlighted professional exchanges and joint initiatives to improve interoperability and strengthen their capacity to address common security challenges.
The engagement reaffirmed the strategic importance of Ethiopia–Kenya defence relations and their shared role in promoting peace and stability across the Horn of Africa.
