Ethiopia Opens Its Arms to Africans Attending AU Meetings — PM Abiy

Addis Ababa, February 9, 2026 (FMC) — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has called on Ethiopians to warmly welcome African leaders, diplomats and delegates arriving in the country this week to attend African Union (AU) meetings in Addis Ababa.

In a message shared on his official social media platforms on Monday, the Prime Minister said Ethiopia is opening its doors to fellow Africans who view the country as a symbol of freedom and a cornerstone of political vision on the continent.

He underscored Ethiopia’s historic role in Africa and urged citizens to demonstrate the country’s long-standing culture of hospitality by treating visitors with respect and kindness.

The Prime Minister also emphasized the importance of using the AU gatherings as an opportunity to reinforce the spirit of African unity and shared aspirations among nations.

Addis Ababa hosts the headquarters of the African Union and regularly welcomes high-level continental meetings attended by heads of state, senior officials and representatives of regional and international institutions.
