Ethiopia Ready to Host 20,000 Delegates for AU, Executive Council, and Italy-Africa Summits

Addis Ababa, February 10, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopia has completed preparations to welcome approximately 20,000 participants for the 39th African Union (AU) Ordinary Summit, the Executive Council Session, and the Italy-Africa Summit, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.

State Minister Berhanu Tsegaye said that all arrangements have been finalized to accommodate the large number of attendees, including heads of state, government officials, and international delegates.

The AU Summit will bring together 39 African Heads of State and Government, alongside the Secretary-General and Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations. The events are also expected to host prominent global leaders and heads of international organizations, providing a platform for high-level dialogue on issues affecting Africa and the world.

As host of the AU headquarters, Ethiopia is prepared to provide world-class facilities, security, and hospitality for all participants. The summits will facilitate strategic discussions on peace, economic cooperation, and sustainable development, underscoring Africa’s growing role on the global stage and strengthening partnerships with international stakeholders, including Italy.

The 39th African Union Assembly will focus on sustainable water availability and safe sanitation systems under Agenda 2063, highlighting Ethiopia’s leadership in regional water conservation. The summit provides an opportunity for African leaders to coordinate efforts on climate resilience and resource management, ensuring collective prosperity across the continent.
