Addis Ababa, October 15, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopia has reaffirmed its commitment and preparations to host the 2029 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2029), briefing a visiting Confederation of African Football (CAF) delegation on its readiness and the significance of bringing the continent’s premier football tournament to the East African nation.
Minister of Youth and Sports Aklilu Tadesse outlined Ethiopia’s preparations and the importance of hosting the continental competition during discussions with the CAF delegation in Addis Ababa.
The delegation expressed appreciation for the welcome and briefing, saying it would conduct on-site assessments of Ethiopia’s preparations over the next five days.
The assessment is part of CAF’s engagement with Ethiopia’s hosting bid, providing an opportunity to examine the country’s preparations as it seeks to bring Africa’s flagship football tournament to Ethiopia in 2029.
Ethiopia’s renewed commitment comes as the country seeks to position itself to host one of African football’s most prominent events, which would bring together national teams, supporters and other stakeholders from across the continent.
