Addis Ababa, August 20, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopia and Russia are working to further strengthen their cooperation in technology, with research and development, human capital development and technology transfer among the areas receiving emphasis.
Russian Ambassador to Ethiopia Evgeny Terekhin made the remarks during a visit to the Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute, where he toured the institute and reviewed its activities.
Institute Director General Dr. Worku Gachena briefed the ambassador on key activities being undertaken by the institute as part of Ethiopia’s digital transformation journey.
He said the institute’s research and development activities are enabling significant progress in Ethiopia’s priority social and economic sectors.
Terekhin, for his part, highlighted the longstanding bilateral relations and strong cooperation between Ethiopia and Russia.
He emphasized that the two countries would further strengthen their cooperation in research and development, human capital development and technology transfer.
The institute said the technology partnership between Ethiopia and Russia is aligned with the broader BRICS agenda of harnessing artificial intelligence for shared development and mutual benefit.
