Ethiopia Spotlights Green Legacy, Climate Action in Global South Environmental Dialogue

Addis Ababa, August 19, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopia spotlighted its Green Legacy Initiative, climate action and environmental sustainability efforts at the BRICS Environment Ministers’ Meeting held in New Delhi on August 18 under India’s 2026 BRICS Chairship.

Ethiopia highlighted the Green Legacy Initiative and its contributions to environmental protection, alongside progress in forest development, land restoration and sustainable land management.

The country also presented measures aimed at strengthening climate resilience, including early warning systems and efforts to prevent and respond to wildfires.

Ethiopia further highlighted its Climate-Resilient Green Economy Strategy, National Adaptation Plan (NAP) and Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) as key frameworks guiding low-carbon and climate-resilient development.

It also outlined efforts to advance the circular economy, including plans to establish a Circular Economy Excellence Center in Addis Ababa.

The meeting provided a platform for Ethiopia to share its experiences in environmental protection, climate resilience and sustainable development within the broader Global South dialogue.
