Addis Ababa, August 24, 2025 (FMC) — Ethiopia has reaffirmed that empowering its youth is central to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, with the government stressing its commitment to ensure young people play a leading role in the nation’s development.
Minister of Women and Social Affairs Ergoge Tesfaye said the government is taking decisive measures to guarantee the full participation and benefit of youth in all national agendas. She made the remarks at a ceremony marking International Youth Day, held under the theme “Collaborative Youth Capacity for the Achievement of Sustainable Development Goals.”
ENA reported that the event was attended by federal and regional officials, youth representatives, youth organizations, and institutions from both governmental and non-governmental sectors.
In her address, Ergoge highlighted that ongoing efforts focus on policy reforms, job creation, education, and health services to enable young people to contribute meaningfully to national progress. She urged Ethiopia’s youth to strengthen their unity and expand their contributions across economic, social, and political spheres, emphasizing that their active involvement is vital to the country’s prosperity.
Ethiopian Youth Council President Fuad Gena echoed this message, stating that Youth Day reflects the determination of young people to shape the future they envision. “We are celebrating Youth Day to make the Ethiopia we wish to build a reality through the unified strength—Medemer—of the youth,” he said.
