Ethiopia Targets 730 Million Quintals of Crop Production in Main Agricultural Production Season — Ministry of Agriculture

Addis Ababa, June 26, 2026 (FMC) — The Ministry of Agriculture has announced that Ethiopia is targeting 730 million quintals of crop production during the 2026 main agricultural production season, currently at its early growing stage under the main rainy-season farming period.

The announcement was made on Thursday during a press briefing outlining national preparations for the ongoing agricultural production cycle.

The Ministry indicated that 22.3 million hectares of land are planned to be cultivated during the 2026 main production season in order to achieve the national output target.

Regarding agricultural inputs, the Ministry reported that preparations include the procurement of 22.9 million quintals of chemical fertilizer, of which 20.9 million quintals have already been secured.

It was further stated that, as of June 25, 2026, about 13.4 million quintals of fertilizer had arrived at the Port of Djibouti, with 12.1 million quintals already transported into the country.

Overall, a total of 19.1 million quintals of fertilizer have been made available for distribution, including carry-over stocks from the previous production cycle.

On improved seed supply, the Ministry noted that out of the planned 2 million quintals of high-quality seeds, 1.5 million quintals have already been distributed to farmers to support ongoing agricultural activities during the current production season.
