Ethiopia to Host 3rd IGAD Media Awards Focused on Climate Action Storytelling

Addis Ababa, November 17, 2025 (FMC) — The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), in partnership with the Government of Ethiopia, will host the 3rd IGAD Media Awards from 29–30 November 2025 at the Skylight Hotel in Addis Ababa, bringing together regional media professionals to spotlight impactful storytelling on climate resilience across the Horn of Africa.

The 2025 awards will be held under the theme “Storytelling for Climate Action: For a Secure, Resilient, and Stable Region,” with a focus on honouring journalists, filmmakers, and content creators whose work documents lived experiences, solutions, and community responses to climate-related challenges in IGAD member states.

Alongside the awards ceremony, the programme will include the Voices for Climate Action Knowledge Share Fair, designed to facilitate peer learning, innovation exchange, and discussions among media practitioners, policymakers, researchers, and development partners.

Organisers confirmed that a 21-member expert jury drawn from IGAD member countries has been convened to guide the selection process and ensure high editorial, ethical, and professional standards.

Ethiopia’s hosting of the 3rd edition reinforces its continued role in regional cooperation, climate diplomacy, and media sector development. The previous editions of the awards were held in Djibouti (2023) and Kenya (2024).

This year’s edition is supported by two Pan-African partners: Pulse of Africa, a regional media organisation amplifying authentic African narratives, and Exim Bank, a continental financial institution advancing economic transformation and development initiatives across Africa.
