Addis Ababa, May 11, 2025 (FMC) — Ethiopia has been urged to broaden the reach of its Green Legacy Initiative by continuing of sharing its experience with other countries and incorporating the program into its diplomatic efforts.
Ambassador Dina Mufti, a member of the House of People’s Representatives Standing Committee on Foreign Relations and Peace Affairs, emphasized that the Green Legacy Initiative presents an opportunity to build additional capacity in the diplomacy sector.
He noted that Ethiopia’s success in the initiative enhances its international image and advised that the country leverage its leadership in the area to strengthen its global standing.
He further explained that sharing Ethiopia’s effective experience with other nations would deepen diplomatic relations and promote goodwill.
According to Ambassador Dina, the initiative has been widely praised both across the continent and internationally, and Ethiopia is actively working to expand the program by disseminating its experience.
For his part, Solomon Tekalign (PhD), a researcher at the Institute of Foreign Affairs (IFA), highlighted Ethiopia’s strong commitment to the initiative, noting that the country has donated millions of seedlings to neighboring nations at its own expense.
He pointed out that visiting leaders and officials from various countries have participated in planting activities and drawn lessons from Ethiopia’s approach.
Mr. Solomon stated that the Green Legacy Initiative not only supports Ethiopia’s environmental goals but also contributes to shaping its regional influence.
He added that Ethiopia is recognized for its leading role in Africa and has shared its experience at international platforms. He called on the country to further intensify its efforts to expand the initiative beyond its borders.
