Addis Ababa, March 17, 2026 (FMC) — Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Gedion Timothewos, today received a delegation from the African Union Pre-Election Assessment Mission at his office.
The delegation, comprising representatives from various African countries, is led by Geoffrey Onyeama, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Nigeria.
During the meeting, Minister Gedion commended the African Union for deploying the mission ahead of Ethiopia’s upcoming national elections, underscoring the importance of such engagement in supporting credible electoral processes. He reaffirmed the Government of Ethiopia’s full commitment to facilitating the mission’s work and ensuring its effective engagement with relevant stakeholders.
For his part, Geoffrey Onyeama noted that the mission aims to engage a broad spectrum of stakeholders and gather firsthand information on the state of preparations for the forthcoming elections.
