Ethiopia welcomes investment in transport and renewable energy infrastructure

Addis Ababa, March 31, 2026 (FMC) – Ethiopia is inviting strategic investment in its transport and logistics sector, emphasizing opportunities in sustainable and renewable energy projects.

Speaking with the leadership of the Ethiopia-China Friendship and Cooperation Committee, Transport and Logistics Minister Alemu Sime (PhD) highlighted the country’s long-standing partnership with China and reaffirmed Ethiopia’s commitment to facilitating foreign investment in key sectors.

Minister Alemu confirmed that investors will receive full support to engage in areas such as logistics, public transport, and the adoption of new energy technologies. He also noted Ethiopia’s recent decision to ban the import of gasoline-powered vehicles as a significant step toward promoting renewable energy and advancing the transition to cleaner transport solutions.

“The country offers extensive investment potential, particularly in railways, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, and the conversion of gasoline-powered vehicles to electric or natural gas alternatives,” Minister Alemu said.

The Ethiopia-China Friendship and Cooperation Committee expressed interest in establishing a vehicle assembly factory to produce electric vehicles and exploring opportunities in hydrogen-powered vehicles and related sectors.

These discussions underscore Ethiopia’s growing focus on green transport solutions and its strategic approach to attracting international investment in sustainable infrastructure.
